U-Man Power rents and sells recumbent trikes and bikes. We started out renting trikes in 2011 and then started fixing bikes for people in Townsend. Soon we were selling complete trikes to those that wanted them in addition to being a full service bike shop. We now are the Tennessee dealer for KMX, Terratrike, Sun, and our own brand of Edge recumbents.
Recumbent trikes and bikes are just more fun than a regular bike and more comfortable. They make cycling safer and more accessible for people of all types and abilities.
We are located about a third of the way through Townsend in the Tuckaleechee Plaza center at 7625 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway. We are right next to Black Bear Cafe. Look for the long red building right after the cafe'. That's us.
The owner and manager, Keila Gillette, along with her husband have been involved in recumbent bikes and trikes for a combined 25 years. We also own Edge Recumbents, one of only two bicycle manufacturers in the state of Tennessee. Through our contacts in the MS, Neurology, Autism and bicycling communities we have been able to help individuals bicycle again. We have seen the amazing adaptability of these bikes/trikes in our own family with our autistic son. We are the official engineering and equipment supplier to the 'Caroline Can' foundation which helped raise money for the Patricia Neal Rehab center in Knoxville Tennessee. Keila manages the shop, does repairs, and organizes the annual Smoky Mountain Recumbent Rally sponsored by our shop. Bill does the design and most of the repairs. He is a licensed mechanical engineer and can design almost anything for adaptive cycling. We can design linkages, innovative braking and shifting systems and modifications to trike and bike geometry. He also has formal training in ergonomics so understands ergonomic set ups for any type of cycling. As a bike frame designer, he understands what makes a bike or trike handle well and how to adapt it for different types of riding.
There is always something interesting going on at our shop so stop by and say 'Hi' or just to stop and hang out in our 'Cyclist's Lounge' which has cycling magazines, a TV (bicycling DVDs on the coffee table) and snacks.
